Patients scheduled for surgery at FMH can have their pre-operative physical
exams, pre-op education, medication inventories, lab tests, chest X-rays
and EKGs completed at one location. Cardiac consults can also be arranged.
“When a patient is scheduled for surgery, it’s important to
be sure they are healthy enough for the operation. Thorough pre-operative screening is the best way to
ensure that patients understand the procedure, have the appropriate tests done to assure
their safety, and know what they can do to assure the most positive outcome.” – Lila Beaulieu, Director of FMH Perioperative Services

- Pre-operative appointments are made by the surgeon’s office when
scheduling the procedure, preferably one week prior to the surgery date.
Results are copied to the surgeon’s office.
- Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday between 10:00 A.M. and
6:30 P.M. in a separate section of the FMH Immediate Care facility at
850 Oak Street in Frederick.
- A medical professional will take the patient’s medical history, inventory
their medications, assess risk factors, treat any conditions that are
relevant to surgical readiness and track the results of tests the surgeon
may have ordered.

“Patients can work with their surgeon to plan their pre-op screening,”
said Lila Beaulieu, FMH Director of Perioperative Services. “What
matters most is that they go into their surgery with a clear understanding
of the procedure, and what they can do to assure that their recovery is
rapid and complete.”
