Each year, the
FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center commemorates this national event by hosting a celebration honoring those
in our community who count themselves among the
15.5 million cancer survivors in the U.S. FRHS invites anyone who is newly diagnosed, currently in treatment, or
has a history of cancer.
“Our survivors are an incredibly inspiring group of people,”
says Janet Rhoderick, oncology operations manager at FRHS. “National
Cancer Survivors Day is the only event where we put aside education and
talk of disease and treatment to really celebrate life beyond a cancer
diagnosis.” This year’s event will feature a survivors’
panel with discussions on hope, health, healing, and life after cancer.
“We’re fortunate to work in an organization that values the
wholeness of each cancer survivor,” says Rhoderick. From social
workers and financial counselors who remove emotional and financial barriers
during treatment, to patient navigators who help ease the survivor’s
anxiety and eliminate barriers to care access, “we employ people
whose sole purpose is to make the journey easier for them. It’s
about letting them live through this process, and we have the staff in
place to let them do that.”
This is a free event for one survivor and one guest. An additional $10
fee will apply to each additional guest. To register for the 2017 National
Cancer Survivors Day celebration, please call 301-418-6735.
