Greg Gagnon M.D.
Dr. Greg Gagnon joined the FRHS CyberKnife Center staff as Medical Director
in February 2010. He spent the previous two decades at Georgetown University's
Department of Radiation Medicine, serving as Associate Professor of Radiation
Oncology, acting Chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine, Chief
of Service and CyberKnife Director.As one of the pioneers in CyberKnife
radiosurgery, Dr. Gagnon has extensive experience with the technology
and has treated thousands of patients. His expertise in treating prostate,
breast, lung and pancreatic cancers, as well as the work he has done in
pediatric and central nervous system cancers has led to several publications
and the co-authorship of two books about radiosurgery. He has been asked
to lecture around the world, chiefly about CyberKnife radiosurgery, but
also about other varied radiation oncology topics.
Meredith Wernick M.D.
Meredith Wernick M.D. is a board certified Radiation Oncologist. She received
her BS in Chemistry and BA in Molecular & Cell Biology at the University
of California at Berkeley in 1996. She spent the next four years as a
researcher at the UCSF Cancer Center with a focus on the genetics of breast
cancer. Dr. Wernick completed her medical training at Georgetown University
where she also completed her Internship in Internal Medicine. She completed
her residency in Radiation Oncology at the National Capital Consortium:
a joint program as a clinical fellow at the NIH and residency at Walter
Reed National Military Medical Center. During this time she was awarded
the Commander’s Award for Public Service. She is a member of ASTRO:
the American Society of Radiation Oncology, the American Society for Clinical
Oncology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology. She has
co-authored many peer-reviewed articles in prestigious literary journals
such as Nature Genetics, Cancer and PNAS. Dr. Wernick resides in Potomac,
Maryland with her husband and two sons.
Wayne E. Flowers
Wayne E. Flowers is a graduate of University of Maryland, Baltimore with
a Bachelor's Degree in Information Sciences. He has over 15 years
experience working in a Fortune 500 company. After two family members
were diagnosed with cancer, Wayne decided to enter the Radiation Oncology
field. He received his clinical training at Siani and Good Samaritan of
Baltimore, MD. He is a board certified Radiation Therapy Technician in
Carol Mastalerz is a results-oriented health care professional with more
than 20 years of clinical and management experience in cancer care. She
earned her nursing degrees from West Virginia University and Wayne State
University and also possesses a Graduate Certificate in the Business of
Medicine from Johns Hopkins University. Carol has been with Frederick
Regional Health System since 2002 as Director of Oncology Services.
Janet Rhoderick is a graduate of Elizabethtown College and University
of Maryland, School of Social Work. She possesses Master's Degrees
in Clinical Social Work and Health Studies, and is a Licensed Certified
Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland. Janet
has worked extensively with Frederick Memorial Hospital's oncology
service line since her employment in 2004. She is a Certified Oncology
Social Worker (OSW-C) and is a member of the National Association of Social
Workers, Association of Oncology Social Work, and the CyberKnife Society.
Nancy Daugherty-Virts is a Certified Medical Assistant having received
The Academic Excellence in Medical Assisting Curriculum and the Career
and Technology Education Awards in 2007 from Frederick Community College.
Prior to entering the medical field she held a veterinary assistant certification
and has over 20 year’s extensive experience in administration and
underwriting with a corporate leader within a highly regulated industry.
She has been employed with The Regional Cancer Therapy Center since 2009.
