Pediatric Rehabilitation
FMH’s experienced team of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists are specially trained to deal with the varying rehabilitation needs of this special population, from infant to adolescent.
The impact of disability on a child and the family changes as the child continues to grow and develop. Our therapists continually develop their skills through attendance at continuing education directed at the many challenges that face this age group.
Our space and equipment are dedicated to the benefit of the families of the Frederick County community and surrounding areas.
Speech Therapy
Children begin to learn language very early in life. Speaking, listening, reading, writing and gesture are all forms of language. As children grow their language skills become increasingly more complex. At Rose Hill Rehab we evaluate a child using standardized tests and when indicated establish a treatment plan with family/child goals included. Early intervention is very important for speech and language delays. Common diagnoses treated include, but are not limited to:
-
Articulation disorders
-
Language delays
-
Stuttering
-
Voice problems (e.g. screamer’s nodules)
-
Oral motor problems that interfere with speech and/or swallowing
-
Language based reading and writing problems
-
Autism and PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder)
-
Cochlear implants
Occupational Therapy
The job of children is play. Children learn how to interact with objects, toys and people in their environment through play. Pediatric occupational therapy helps children learn or regain the skills they need to be successful in their school, home, and community. Occupational therapy services include direct assessment and treatment, consultation with the family, caregivers, and others providing services to the child, family education and individualized home programs. Common diagnoses treated include, but are not limited to:
-
Sensory Integration Dysfunction (DSI)
-
Fine and gross motor delays
-
Developmental Delays
-
Motor incoordination
-
Dyspraxia
-
Handwriting difficulties
-
Visual perceptual deficits
-
Hemiplegia / Hemiparesis
Physical Therapy
One way children learn is through movement. Promoting the child’s optimum level of function and quality of life as it relates to functional movement and health is our goal. Pediatric physical therapy focuses on the individual needs of the child and promotes improved mobility, coordination and strength to promote success in their school, home, and community. Some specific benefits of physical therapy include improved posture (the basis for optimum movement), balance, positioning, normalization of muscle tone, and sensorimotor processing. Common diagnoses treated include, but are not limited to:
-
torticollis
-
genetic disorders
-
developmental delay
-
cerebral palsy
-
orthopedic conditions
-
neurologic disorders
