A Parents' Guide to the NICU
The FMH Parent Advisory Committee has put together an informative brochure that will help to prepare you for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit experience. It explains and defines many of the terms and titles you will hear in the NICU, and gives you a pictorial introduction to some of the equipment you may see being used to care for your baby.

Dear Parents:
We hope that a better understanding of some of the things that happen in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will make things a little easier for you during this difficult time. This booklet was prepared by one of our parents to help explain some of the equipment you may see, terms you may hear, and support that is available to you. Having your baby(ies) stay in the NICU is not easy for parents. It is probably not what you envisioned during your pregnancy and it can be unsettling for you at times. Please feel free to ask questions of the staff at any time and know that we are here to provide the best care possible to your newborn(s).
Sincerely, The NICU Physicians and Staff
