BabyBEST - Breastfeeding Education and Support Together - is a program offered by the BirthPlace to support nursing mothers.  Recognizing that breast milk is the best nutrition for babies, our lactation consultants promote successful breastfeeding by offering education, consultations and breast pump rentals.

No matter where you delivered your baby, you may use our services. Just call the helpline - 240-566-3880 - or make an appointment to stop by at a time that is convenient for you. Arrangements for services can also be made by physicians or other healthcare providers.

Payment is expected at the time these services are rendered. We will help you submit bills to third-party payers. If you are unable to pay, please ask us about possible fee reductions or waivers.

Who provides services?

Our lactation consultants are women who are healthcare professionals specializing in the management of breastfeeding. All are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc. Most are mothers who have nursed several children themselves.

The BabyBEST telephone number is 240-566-3880. The telephone line has an answering machine that is checked daily. Our services are available Monday through Saturday to answer questions, solve acute breastfeeding problems, rent breast pumps and provide support for nursing mothers. The BabyBEST office is located on the first floor of the hospital along the corridor that leads into the FMH BirthPlace.
