Safety & Injury Prevention

Being prepared for an emergency brings peace of mind, but knowing how to prevent an injury from ever occurring is most certainly the preferable course.

The FMH Wellness Center offers a variety of First Aid and CPR classes.  Our complete line of CPR courses is taught by certified American Heart Association instructors.  All classes use “watch and practice” videos that make learning easy and enjoyable.  Each class emphasizes “hands-on” skills, practicing with mannequins.  Upon course completion, students are prepared to administer CPR to victims of sudden cardiac arrest or choking.

Our Basic First Aid Training is designed for lay people.  It teaches participants how to deal with an injury or medical emergency while awaiting professional rescuers.  The program satisfies both insurance and governmental requirements for business and industry.

Field experience at various safety seat inspections shows that nine out of ten safety seats are not being used or installed correctly.  Is yours?

Child safety seats are very effective when installed and used correctly, but in Maryland it is estimated that the misuse rate is approximately 90% !  FMH Wellness Center’s Safety and Injury Prevention Program helps to reduce the number of needless injuries and deaths by educating the public on child passenger safety.

Child Passenger Safety

Project K.I.S.S. (Kids In Safety Seats)

Since the 1980’s, Maryland Kids in Safety Seats (KISS) has been the state’s lead agency in child passenger safety.  KISS is housed in the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and funded by the Department of Transportation.  The goal of KISS is to help people use safety seats correctly each time a child rides in a car.  KISS coordinates loaner sites throughout the state which offer seats at a low cost to families who otherwise can’t afford them.  The FMH Wellness Center is such a designated site.
