Frederick Memorial Hospital:  At a Glance

For over 100 years Frederick Memorial Hospital has been caring for the healthcare needs of an ever-growing community.   As we enter our second century of service provision, and bring to the community a new, state-of-the-art facility, Frederick Memorial Healthcare System pledges to remain true to those values and ideals so eloquently expressed in the simple words or our founder’s vision.  In the late 1890’s as Emma Smith began her personal campaign to build a hospital in her home town, she solicited funds with this simple statement of her dream:  “to provide a place that would care for the sick, comfort the injured, and provide peace of mind to all….”

A New Hospital for a New Millenium

Frederick Memorial Hospital recently completed a multimillion dollar expansion and renovation project. Since the official end to the decade of effort dubbed Project 2000, all of the hospital beds are now in private rooms; our operating room capacity has increased to 15 suites with several rooms capable of accomodating open heart procedures; and we've added a new PACU, ICU, BirthPlace and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (or NICU).  

Construction of the George L. Shields Emergency Department - completed in the spring of 2004 - doubled the size of the old emergency department to 51 treatment areas.  Dedicated support services such as   Radiology and CT Scan Imaging, are now immediately available right in the heart of the new ED.

Construction of the new Patient Tower was completed in 2005, providing all private rooms in the BirthPlace, the Family Center (post-partum care), the Pediatric Department, Behavioral Health, Med/Surg Department and Telemetry rooms.  FMH is licensed for 276 beds, including med-surg, psychiatric, subacute and intensive care. 

The Healthcare System is composed of 20 satellite facilities, including physician practices, Immedicate Care Facilities in Frederick and Mt. Airy; Rose Hill Imaging and Rehab; laboratory, rehabilitation and imaging services at FMH Crestwood and a comprehensive Wellness Center in the FSK Mall.

A private, not for profit, 276 bed hospital, FMH offers education in healthy lifestyle choices and disease prevention and brings to our community the latest advances in diagnostic capabilities and state-of-the-art treatment protocols.
