Orthotic Devices
Dr. Levine can customize shoe inserts, known as
orthotic devices, which are fabricated on site in our own orthotic laboratory
named By Design Orthotics. These devices function to support ambulation and
are prescribed for an array of problems. A custom fit orthosis is made to
precise measurement from a cast impression. The material used depends on your
needs, level of activity and type of shoes. Soft moldable materials are used
to accommodate painful or problem areas. By lining the shoe to eliminate gaps
and pressure points, an unparalleled comfortable fit is achieved. Semi-rigid
materials help control biomechanics when extra demands are placed on the feet,
and are especially effective for athletes and others whose foot movements
are multidirectional. Improving and supporting position allows the foot to
function normally and helps control the motion of the joints.
The Gait
Lab
In the gait lab, the FScan computer software is teamed with four closed-circuit
TV cameras to provide full body analysis of the gait from various angles.
Paper thin sensors are placed in the shoes you wear. As you walk, Dr. Levine
views and records the reactive forces between your foot and the shoe, and
evaluates alignment and biomechanical position.
Surgery
When conservative measures are not effective, Dr. Levine has specialized training
to perform all types of corrective foot surgeries. His medical training included
a residency in surgery at a California hospital. He is board certified by
the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and is a member of the American Society
of Podiatric Surgeons.
Shoes
Sometimes your treatment can start with something as simple as a pair of shoes.
We will measure your feet using the state of the art istep -a computerized
measuring technique that not only determines your foot size, but the pressure
points as well as the center of gravity. This will help us guide you to what
you need. If we don't have what you need, Walkright
might have what you want.
Orthopedic
Shoe Modification
Customizing the fit of the shoe can often solve the foot problem. We offer
the only orthopedic and shoe repair service in the area. A staff member trained
in specialized repair techniques. It is a fact that the position of bones
in the feet actually changes as we age, plus research shows that many back
problems result from foot imbalance or from one leg being longer than the
other. Something as simple as a lift in the shoe can be an effective solution.
Shoes can be modified with inlays and inserts to add support or alleviate
strain.
