Now that the holiday party season is in full swing, you probably feel like
you’re splurging everywhere you turn. Those more frequent splurges
usually result in a few extra pounds this time of year, and if you’re
trying to watch your calorie intake you know that holiday parties can
be a challenge.
To help you get through the holiday season without those extra pounds,
we’ve come up with some easy to remember tips for surviving your
next holiday gathering.
Plan Your Day Accordingly
When you have a party planned for later in the day, start your day off
right with a healthy breakfast that includes whole grains, fruit, low-fat
or fat-free dairy, and protein such as eggs, ham, or peanut butter. Don’t
starve yourself during the day leading up to the party. Instead, eat small,
low-calorie meals throughout your day to ensure that you don’t overdo
your calorie intake during the party.
Have a Healthy Food Strategy
Once the party starts, don’t rush to eat. Socialize and settle into
the festivities first. Give yourself time to choose between foods you
definitely want to eat, things you might like to try, and those items
that you’ll skip. Fill half of your plate with healthy fruits and
vegetables, a quarter of your plate with a starch, and the last quarter
