On October 22, 2015 the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary presented
the prestigious Presidential Service Awards to 12 Junior Volunteers and
1 Adult Volunteer, in recognition of their volunteer hours and service to FMH.
The Presidential Service Awards were established in 2003 to recognize the
valuable contributions volunteers are making in our communities, and to
encourage people to volunteer and make a commitment to service a central
part of their lives.
Presidential Service Awards for services provided over the prior 12-month
period were presented to the following junior volunteers – Rimsha
Fiaz, Dawson Tan, and Qianze Zhang (Silver Award for 175-250 hours) and
Ari Dyer, Michelle Gass, Abdullah Mazhar, Ayla Nickerson, Kaushika Pavuluri,
Rhea Puthumana, Michael Williams, Su Win and Daniel Yoon (Bronze Awards
100-175 hours). The awards were presented by Barbara Poffenberger and
Amy Wheeler, Assistant Directors of Volunteer Services and Cheryl Cioffi.
Presidential Service Awards for cumulative hours (4,000+ hours of service)
earned over the course of a lifetime of service was presented to the following
adult volunteer – Mary Mahoney. Mary Mahoney, of Frederick, has
been a volunteer over 14 years starting in May 2001. She has served in
many services including the information desk, mail and flowers, the gift
shop, fundraising, nominating committee and the holiday bazaar.
The FMH auxiliary is the largest hospital auxiliary in Maryland with more
than 700 members contributing approximately 90,000 hours of service through
a wide variety of support services for the Frederick Regional Health System.
The FMH Auxiliary also operates the hospital gift
shop and the Select Seconds Thrift Store on East Patrick Street in downtown
Frederick. The auxiliary offers a variety of opportunities for students
and adults looking for a unique and rewarding way to help others.
