New Yoga Classes at ProMotion Fitness+

Yoga is a combination of poses and postures designed to increase strength and flexibility. Research shows that by participating in a consistent yoga practice, one gains not only increased flexibility, strength, balance, vitality, and energy but also overall physical and mental awareness. Research also shows a decrease in blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, and overall injury occurrence. According to the Mayo Clinic, yoga is considered one of many types of complementary and integrative health approaches.

ProMotion Fitness+ is pleased to announce the newest addition to their 2018 yoga schedule,Yoga for Cancer. According to instructor Margy Smariga, “this class is specifically designed for cancer patients and survivors. Classes include gentle postures, breath work, relaxation, and mindfulness practices to help reduce stress, relieve symptoms, and promote well-being.” Margy is professionally trained in adaptive/therapeutic yoga and yoga for cancer. Classes offer a safe, nurturing environment for individuals living with or recovering from cancer, enhancing their physical and mental well-being.

Those who have experienced cancer treatment know first-hand how stressful it can be on the mind and body, but the practice of yoga helps to lift spirits, strengthen muscles, and relax the mind. According to Exercise Specialist and Registered Yoga Teacher, Kristi Brownlow, “not only are there many physical benefits to a consistent yoga practice, including but not limited to increased range of motion, increased flexibility, and increased strength, but the mental and emotional benefits are vast and extremely important.” A consistent yoga practice helps to promote mental relaxation, it reduces anxiety and depression, improves sleep, and leaves you feeling calmer and more accepting.

Classes are offered on Wednesdays at 10am at ProMotion Fitness+. The first class with begin on January 3, 2018 and the session will run for 8 weeks. Drop-in’s are welcome however we suggest a phone call to ensure space in available. Please call 240-215-1470 to register or for more information.
